SILENCE IS PROSPEROUS

My friend and I share the same birthday, which is coming up in a few days.  Since our shared day is so close to the first day of the New Year, I thought I’d send her something “prosperous”, and what could be more appropriate than a prosperity hen?  Nothing.

Now, she does own a strung up clutch of them that hangs on the porch door at her vacation cottage just like the one pictured below.

But, I thought I’d silently make her just one – a cute little prosperity hen charm.

And, I think you should make one, too.  It doesn’t have to look anything like the one I made, nor does it even have to be made with wool felt.  Create one to your own personal liking and think of it as your first(and prosperous!) crafty exercise of the New Year.

Now, go and be prosperous and crafty.

Cluck.  Cluck.

P.S. – for those of you who read my last post, kitty is making great progress!  Pain meds are no longer needed and he is able to walk, though with the stiffness of an old man.  Longterm senior care acupuncture therapy is next on the agenda.  See that, silence really does heal.

SAVE THE PONY EXPRESS!

Christmas is coming…
the goose is on the run.

Make a few Christmas cards…
for some crafty fun.

If there’s no time for that…
store bought ones will do.

If you don’t send Christmas cards…
then God bless you.

I’m not sure which is worse, no cards, or e-cards.  I delight in receiving beautiful Christmas cards and displaying them among my decorations.  Yes, folks, sending a Christmas card is sending your recipient a little ephemeral decoration.  Sweet.

Here’s an example of a super easy handmade card.  A blank card/envelope, a tall skinny triangle cut from Christmas print card stock, the bottom half of a tiny triangle, a Sharpie marker and some double-sided tape are all that’s needed to make one.  Better yet, enlist your kids to make a bunch of them(this way you can go bake in peace)!  And, hey, last year’s Christmas cards are ideal card stock to work with.

So, please, please, please….. brush up on your “penmanship”, grab your coffee, tea or whatever, and get those cards signed, sealed and delivered!

SOME NEW HANDMADES

Hey there!  Here’s a little peak at a few more handmade creations I’ve been cranking out.

Last year and the year before that, I was on a colorful felted mushroom kick.  This year, it’s trees that mimic the shape and form of the cypress trees I observed in Italy.

And, this heart ornament….. it’s one of a few designs that I came up with using wire from cages landscape nurseries use to ball and burlap their heavy trees and shrubs.  The hook is made from turkey fencing wire.

The east end of Long Island, NY, received it’s first honest snowfall today.  It wasn’t much, just a few inches.  But, it’s cold enough to make cozying up tonight that much more inviting.

Good night.

HANDMADE HUMBLE HOSPITALITY

Oh, it’s getting quite chilly where I live, and my gardening work season is drawing to a close.  Cozy, crafty activities are on my mind, and I look forward to having the wintertime to enjoy it wholeheartedly.  I seized the opportunity to stay indoors and whet my crafty appetite one recent rainy day, and I’m thrilled to share with you what I made.

Do you have a humble little stash of scrap fabric?  I’m sure you do.  I came across a 10″ square piece of green and pink floral patterned fabric while rummaging through one of my fabric bins.  It’s been in my possession for many, many years, but I was never moved to do anything with it….. until the other day.

I present to you some humble little holiday coasters.

Wait!  There’s more………

A humble little ornament.

Humble little place cards…….

And, finally….. some humble little gift tags.

That’s quite a bit of creative mileage out of one little scrap, don’t you think?

Now, you go get scrappy and crafty.
