Tis’ not the season that I be blogging. I had the best intentions with regard to participating during “the most wonderful time of the year” but, my focus has been elsewhere.

I’m happy to say that my mushrooms all but sold out at our town’s local, fabulous, super-friendly and absolutely gorgeous-for-the-holiday garden center……..

The woodblock ornaments were a hit at a holiday fair I participated in a few weeks ago. I had promised you all a tutorial(still in draft mode) a while back; perhaps you’ll get it for Christmas. Gulp.

Now, I simply can’t resist sharing with you some new material that I’ve designed, and that has given me great creative pleasure……. my “plane” and natural collection. If you’re up on your geometry, you should understand the word play.

GLEANING THE BEACH ON THANKSGIVING EVE

I took a few moments to glean the beach for project destined pieces of driftwood this morning. It was just me and the seagull. I am so thankful for autumn days like this – somber, still, serene, moody; they are my absolute favorite kind. Tomorrow I will break bread with my family; for that, too, I am very, very thankful.

A pair of hand pruners, a few vessels or containers and some fresh cut greenery are all you’ll need. There’s no need to wait for December, either. Feathery boughs of cedar, juniper, arborvitae, microbiota, chamaecyperus, fir and spruce fit right in with and nicely complement all those decorative Thanksgiving trimmings.

Two of my favorite trees to snip from are Japanese umbrella pine(Sciadopitys verticillata) for it’s leathery-like whorled needles…..

Both were ones I bought live and that served as my Christmas trees many years ago. My, how they’ve grown! The Japanese umbrella pine was a very pricey purchase. I slapped down a hundred bucks for what resembled a three-foot Charlie Brown tree; I just had to have it. My kids were very young at that time, and were absolutely mortified. “Mom….. this is not a Christmas tree!”

Assemble your outdoor arrangements in containers filled with damp soil or old potting mix. Make use of decorative plastic nursery pots if you live in an area where freezing weather is a concern. If you hate that idea and absolutely must use your cherished glazed pots, simply make your arrangement in an old plastic pot then insert it inside the nice one. I also use that approach when choosing to work with metal pails, as frozen soil expands and could bust open the pail’s seam.

Embellish with baubles of your choice, and you’re all set!

I made this arrangement just for the birds; after all, they deserve a pretty feeding station, right?

HE SEES DEAD PEOPLE.

So, the little boy sees dead people…….. big deal. I see repurposed people, and this little angelic one came into my vision while staring at some crap in my garage.

She wasn’t borne from a sixth sense, either. No, she was created with some old fan blades, wood from a broken desk drawer, scrap wire, jute twine and last, but not least, a sparkling scouring scrubby.

What kind of people do you see? Stare at some inanimate objects long enough and someone is bound to reveal themselves.
