ANOTHER HEART IS BORN!

In my last post, I shared with you a stab at “hacking the code” with how to make a velvet pumpkin heart, which I initially discovered available for purchase via this company.  However, there were no online tutorials to be found for how to make one yourself.  These plush beauties are not cheap – a simple five inch heart fetching $39!

Additionally, while I was hacking away, and to my delight, I came up with a variation.

Here it is!

Just like the hack, begin with a rectangle piece of fabric.  Fold the fabric in half (nice sides facing each other)so that the two short ends meet.  Machine stitch a “V” at the folded edge, then cut off the little triangle shaped ends.  Next, trim off each top corner into a curved shape.  Now, pull the fabric halves away from each other and turn it right side out.  Proceed with the up and down stitching, cinching and stuffing just like in the hack.

This heart design doesn’t lend itself to pumpkin stems or sticks, but buttons and ribbons are perfect for finishing off the look.  A little brooch or tassel would work too.

Okay, no more Valentine heart posts for this year – scout’s honor.  But, that doesn’t mean I won’t be creative.  It never fails that another crafty fixation will pop into my head.  Who knows what that will be.

NOT EDIBLE, BUT DEFINITELY SWEET!

Here’s a little visually sugar coated sweet post just for you.

Temps in the teens and twenties have a way of keeping me indoors for lengthy bouts of time.  I’m known for keeping my hands busy with rakes, shovels and pruners; however, at this time of year, you’ll find me keeping them busy with scissors, glue and all sorts of other crafty paraphernalia.

As you can see, I’ve been spending a lot of time indoors, and, as of late, Cupid has been my muse.

“Sew”, what’s a gal to do with abundant lengths of fabric and trim?  Stitch them together, feed them onto wire and bend them into heart shapes!

And, when she’s at the end of her ribbon, she can make “naked” hearts.  Copper wire with an aged patina is definitely worthy of showing some skin.

Stay tuned……I have a few more visual sweets that I will be sharing with you very soon!

CHEERS TO 2018!

I can’t believe that people are actually going to gather around at Time Square tonight.  They are crazy!  It is so stinking cold out, not to mention the wind gusts.  Single digit temps are expected this evening in eastern NY.  Besides, for security purposes, no backpacks are allowed in that particular vicinity, which means no way to pack extra items to keep you warm.  No thank you!  I will be ringing in the New Year gathering at the warm and cozy home of some very dear friends who live close by.

And, this is how I’m doing it in a crafty way…..

…. with a little feature in Stampington & Co’s Jewelry Affaire 2018 winter issue!

Here’s a little peak at one of a few things that made it into this issue.

And here are a few pieces that are not in the magazine, but do you see the weathered, chippy-finish theme going on here?

I also whipped up a few more scrappy little fabric coasters.  I love making these because the less finished and more imperfect they come out, the cuter they are.  It’s a quick and easy way to use up surplus fabric pieces.

Anyway, cheers to 2018, whether you’re freezing your tootsies off or basking in hot, sunny weather.

HANDMADE HUMBLE HOSPITALITY

Oh, it’s getting quite chilly where I live, and my gardening work season is drawing to a close.  Cozy, crafty activities are on my mind, and I look forward to having the wintertime to enjoy it wholeheartedly.  I seized the opportunity to stay indoors and whet my crafty appetite one recent rainy day, and I’m thrilled to share with you what I made.

Do you have a humble little stash of scrap fabric?  I’m sure you do.  I came across a 10″ square piece of green and pink floral patterned fabric while rummaging through one of my fabric bins.  It’s been in my possession for many, many years, but I was never moved to do anything with it….. until the other day.

I present to you some humble little holiday coasters.

Wait!  There’s more………

A humble little ornament.

Humble little place cards…….

And, finally….. some humble little gift tags.

That’s quite a bit of creative mileage out of one little scrap, don’t you think?

Now, you go get scrappy and crafty.
