A FLAKY “Aha!” MOMENT

New York, as well as other east coast regions, are currently getting slammed with well more than a coating of snowy white. Here, on eastern Long Island, it began in the wee hours of the morning, and continues to fall fast and furious! I’d normally wait until the snowfall ceases to begin the dig out, but my backyard feathered friends are out and about demanding lunch!

Well, a flake of brilliance is “bliss”-ard!

Hanging next to my winter work jacket was my rain slicker, which I neglected to stow away at the end of the summer. I simply wore it over my winter coat, and it made shaking off the snow before coming back inside the house so ridiculously easy! Try it!

WHAT’S UP WITH THAT?

Hello, and Happy New Year!

I just couldn’t bite my tongue with regard to writing this post. So be it, I’m commencing 2018 venting atop my imaginary little soapbox.

While delighting in viewing some blog entries over the past few days, I noticed that quite a few folks disassemble their Christmas decor on December 26, or just shortly after. I’m quite dumbfounded, to say the least. Of course, many people enjoy this holiday without a religious attachment…… but really, what is the rush to pack all those baubles away? It’s an “on to the next thing” mentality. What’s up with that? Please don’t tell me you put up your Christmas decor before Thanksgiving and that you’re just so over it and sick of it. Oy!

For those who do acknowledge “Christ” in Christmas…… hello!, Advent (western liturgical year)begins on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Then there’s Christmas week (beginning Christmas Day), and the Epiphany, or Feast of the Three Kings, which usually falls on January 6 and concludes the Christmas season.

Now, I understand that some of these dates vary according to where you live on the map, and this is in no way an invitation to argue or discuss topics about paganism. But, perhaps, slowing down, taking time to be in the moment and enjoying the time at hand is not such a bad way to ring in the New Year.

Okay, I’m stepping off my little imaginary soapbox now.

CHEERS TO 2018!

I can’t believe that people are actually going to gather around at Time Square tonight. They are crazy! It is so stinking cold out, not to mention the wind gusts. Single digit temps are expected this evening in eastern NY. Besides, for security purposes, no backpacks are allowed in that particular vicinity, which means no way to pack extra items to keep you warm. No thank you! I will be ringing in the New Year gathering at the warm and cozy home of some very dear friends who live close by.

And, this is how I’m doing it in a crafty way…..

I also whipped up a few more scrappy little fabric coasters. I love making these because the less finished and more imperfect they come out, the cuter they are. It’s a quick and easy way to use up surplus fabric pieces.

SOME NEW HANDMADES

Hey there! Here’s a little peak at a few more handmade creations I’ve been cranking out.

Last year and the year before that, I was on a colorful felted mushroom kick. This year, it’s trees that mimic the shape and form of the cypress trees I observed in Italy.

And, this heart ornament….. it’s one of a few designs that I came up with using wire from cages landscape nurseries use to ball and burlap their heavy trees and shrubs. The hook is made from turkey fencing wire.

The east end of Long Island, NY, received it’s first honest snowfall today. It wasn’t much, just a few inches. But, it’s cold enough to make cozying up tonight that much more inviting.
